Moving to a green building: Indoor environment quality, thermal comfort and health

چکیده
A global movement towards the creation of “green” buildings is currently underway. Although driven primarily by an external environmental agenda such as energy or carbon, there growing recognition that greener could affect Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ). However, localised green building codes, especially in developing world, often do not systematically recognise IEQ health crucial issues, which therefore remain understudied. Since world alone expected to nearly double current built floor space 2050, it perform holistically be effective. Here, we follow 120 employees a single organisation they transition from four conventional office first (GB), designed local Jordanian Green Building Guide. We ask if move has positive effect on occupant perception IEQ, thermal comfort and prevalence Sick Syndrome (SBS), using repeated-measures protocol. Statistically significant differences conditions, positively biased GB, were observed across move, this enhanced comfort. Surprisingly, no improvement air quality, visual acoustic was detected after moving while odour, mental concentration, glare perceived poor GB associated with increase SBS symptoms. Hence, our results support concern may create unintended consequences terms pursuit better environment efficiency.

Transition from thermal comfort to thermal pleasure: Explanation of the factors that shape thermal quality perception in the built environment
Different sensory stimuli, such as light, color, smell, sound and texture, play an important role in perceiving the quality of an environment. Heat, like other sensory stimuli, can contribute to the richness of an environment and provide a greater benefit to people. The fact that a person in addition to the thermal comfort of a particular environment can also benefit from its thermal quality, i...
متن کاملEnergy Efficient Laboratory Design: A Novel Approach to Improve Indoor Air Quality and Thermal Comfort
Nanotechnology promises to improve the quality of human life, but it has also provoked concerns about potential adverse health effects on workers, the environment and consumers. Effective risk assessment and risk management of nanotechnology requires: 1) knowing how engineered nanoscale particles (NPs) can gain entry into the human body (routes of exposure); 2) knowing whether engineered NPs ca...
متن کاملAir Quality and Thermal Comfort in Office Buildings: Results of a Large Indoor Environmental Quality Survey
This paper presents results of over 34,000 survey responses to air quality and thermal comfort questions in 215 buildings in US, Canada, and Finland. Results show that 80% or more of the occupants expressed satisfaction with their thermal comfort in only 11% of the buildings surveyed. Air quality scores were somewhat higher, with 26% of buildings having 80% or occupant satisfaction. With respec...
متن کاملModel-adaptive Analysis of Indoor Thermal Comfort
We address the model-adaptive coupling between computational codes for indoor thermal comfort analysis considering different levels of detail in space and time. Starting with a whole-year simulation, significant periods are interactively identified in terms of a coarse thermal comfort analysis. After refining these critical intervals with respect to the spatial resolution, a multi-segment manik...
